Perhaps the live-streaming of a 21st century pogrom will make our leaders and our media think twice before blithely tossing around words like “racist” and “hate” to describe merely disapproved beliefs.

Not only is the small-donor approach far preferable to the clearly less democratic alternative of our recent past, but its relationship to principled politics makes it a better bulwark against corruption than any ethical rule or guideline.
