Guidelines for Article Submissions
Those wishing to write unsolicited opinion commentaries for The Hub can send their pitches along with a short one- to two-sentence bio to editorial@thehub.ca.
While we prefer pitches as it helps us to flesh out an idea, we also on occasion accept finished articles (via Microsoft Word or Google Doc), provided they meet the following criteria:
- Are timely;
- Fall within the fields of politics, public policy, economics and business, foreign affairs history, security, and culture;
- Have not been published elsewhere;
- Are generally no more than 850 words in length max.
In terms of focus and tone, The Hub prioritizes fact- and figures-filled, future-focused, solution-oriented content over simple diagnoses of problems or rhetorical takedowns. You can learn more about our general POV on our About page.
Authors of pieces we are interested in will receive an email from a member of our editorial team. Authors who have not heard from us within five business days are free to pitch their articles elsewhere.
Selected articles will undergo an editing and fact-checking process via Google Docs with one of our editors. Writers should expect and tolerate changes to their pieces. Editors have final discretion on all edits and headlines.
You can view our Journalistic Standards and Practices here.
Authors of unsolicited pieces for the most part do not receive compensation.
The Hub will do its best to ensure that selected pieces are published in a timely matter; however, we are unable to make promises about when precisely pieces will be published.
Those wishing to write a piece of news journalism for us can also submit their pitches or pieces to editorial@thehub.ca, but include “NEWS” in the subject line. News (approx. 800 words) and feature pieces’ (1,500 words) word counts can vary.
Thank you for your interest.
