‘It’s a pyrrhic victory’: John Rustad’s hollow leadership win and a B.C. Conservative Party in crisis
Kirk LaPointe, The Hub’s B.C. correspondent, discusses the precarious position of B.C. Conservative leader John Rustad following his leadership review victory. Despite Rustad winning a majority of support, LaPointe explains why, given the small number of people who actually voted across the province’s 93 ridings, serious questions about the legitimacy of Rustad’s mandate remain. LaPointe also explains the pressure Rustad faces from both moderate and further Right factions within his caucus. He argues that the B.C. Conservatives are missing a critical chance to capitalize on the NDP government’s vulnerabilities due to internal discord and misplaced focus on social issues rather than economic concerns.
