With Parliament set to resume on Monday, we felt it was the perfect time to bring back a Hub reader favourite: The Week in Polling, your Saturday dose of interesting numbers from top pollsters in Canada and around the world, curated by The Hub. Here’s what we’re looking at this week.
The Liberals sit three points ahead of the Conservatives as Parliament resumes
The Mark Carney-led Liberals now sit ahead of the Pierre Poilievre-led Conservatives by a mere three points, a nearly identical margin to their election victory last April.
Since the federal election in April, only two of the over 40 national polls listed on 338Canada’s aggregator have marked the Conservatives ahead of the Liberals. Both polls had the Conservatives ahead by two points.
The most recent national poll, conducted by Leger last week, had the Liberals ahead by 9 percent.
As the Liberals sustain their election lead, Carney’s popularity has declined, according to Angus Reid. In June, 57 percent of Canadians held positive views of Carney and just 29 percent held negative ones. In early September, positivity dipped to 51 percent and negativity spiked to 41 percent.
Going into Parliament on Monday, eyes will be on the polls to see whether the Liberal honeymoon is coming to an end.
